Dubai Billionaire Hussain Sajwani Doubles Down On Indonesia With $2.3 Billion Data Center Project

Damak Group– Controlled by Dubai billionaire Hussain Sajwani– Investment in Indonesia has been deepened through a $2.3 billion data center project in a booming demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications.

Through its unit EDGNEX Data Center, Damac will develop a 144-megawatt data center in Jakarta, the company said in a statement Wednesday. Construction is underway and the first phase of the project is expected to run by the end of next year.

EDGNEX also established a 19.2 MW data center in Haryono, Shanxi, Jakarta. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year.

Indonesia is one of Southeast Asia’s data center hotspots. Sinarmas Land of the billionaire Widjaja family is tied to the K2 strategy (controlled by Malaysian billionaire Robert Kuok), and has developed a 100-megawatt data center in Bekasi, eastern Jakarta. Widjajas has also established a separate joint venture with South Korea’s investment Real Asset to build a $300 million project in the commercial district of Jakarta. Meanwhile, Indonesian industry pioneer DCI – composed of billionaires Otto Toto Sugiri, Marina Budiman and Han Arming Hanafia, is expected to have a total capacity of more than 120 MW early next year, with new facilities going online.

In addition to Indonesia, EDGNEX launched a plan to invest 32 billion baht (US$982 million) in October to build a data center in Thailand. Its purpose is to have a capacity of more than 300 megawatts in Southeast Asia in the coming year.

According to net worth $10.2 billion Forbes’ Real-time data is the chairman of Damac Properties, a Dubai real estate developer he founded in 2002. Before focusing on real estate, he initially provided food and catering services to US military and construction giant Bechtel.
