According to the South China Morning Post, a Chinese cybersecurity agency claimed that U.S. intelligence agencies conducted “cyberattacks” on two technology companies and stole their trade secrets.

According to the South China Morning Post, the non-governmental China National Computer Network Emergency Technical Response Team/Coordination Center issued a statement this week detailing the attacks, adding that it had discovered and “handled” them.

The cybersecurity agency said the two technology companies that were attacked included a data company and an advanced materials design research unit. It added that hackers used Trojan viruses and backdoors to compromise their servers.

The statement comes as U.S. security agencies and officials accuse Chinese hackers of infiltrating multiple U.S. telecommunications companies and stealing massive amounts of data in what is “the largest telecommunications hacking attack” in U.S. history. Officials said the hackers were backed by the Chinese government.
